Micro Weddings

Weddings are getting bigger and bigger, and at times it can feel like your guest list is only getting longer too. However, it seems many couples are favoring sharing their special day in small, intimate ceremonies and receptions. Micro weddings are well and truly in for 2025 and for the years to come. Your wedding day is an opportunity to share the start of your marriage and life together with those you love. Guest lists don't need to be long for the sake of it- it's best to have whoever you and your partner want there as you share your vows and celebrate your marriage.

If you plan on having a smaller church wedding, you can plan an intimate celebration with close family and friends, focusing on a personal and meaningful ceremony. It is best to speak to your vicar to find out what might be possible, as some churches have smaller chapels which you might be able to get married in.

Colourful Flowers

Whilst wedding flowers quite often feature a selection of pastels, this years trend has seen wedding bouquets and floral decorations embracing a pop of colour to make them a stand out feature of the day. If you'd like something that is bright and eye-catching, you'd be in safe company, with many searching Pinterest for colourful bouquet and flower decoration inspiration.

Whether you'd like bright and colourful or a range of soft pastels, flowers can be a beautiful decoration in any Devon church. If you are getting married in one of our churches, some of them might be able to suggest people who may be able to help with flower arrangements. Some churches may even have a volunteer flower decorations team if you would like some help with your flower decorations. Do speak to your church to see what is possible.

Sustainable Weddings

This year has seen a rise in couples making eco-friendly choices for their special day. There are so many little ways that you can make your wedding day sustainable, that make a big difference!

These can include:

  • Digital invitations

  • Using locally sourced food for your catering options

  • Incorporating seasonal flowers in your bouquet

  • Biodegradable confetti- if you are getting married in a Devon church, we kindly ask that you use biodegradable confetti. This is readily available either as paper confetti, or dried flowers also work!

Sarah Charker, Creation Care Engagement Officer for the Diocese of Exeter, said, "I am so encouraged to see the increasing trend for sustainable and plastic free weddings. All-in-one Venues

Venues that can offer both a space for the ceremony and the reception are growing in popularity. Whilst hotels and manor houses can be popular for this, some churches might be able to offer this too!

One couple decided they wanted to have not only their wedding ceremony, but also their reception at Holy Trinity Church in Barnstaple. They said, "It's a meaningful and intimate way of getting married. If the church is amenable to having the reception there too, it can be very convenient and cost effective." Jeremy, the Groom, said, "It's a meaningful and intimate way of getting married. If the church is amenable to having the reception there too, it can be very convenient and cost effective." Click here to read the story of how they transformed the church from wedding ceremony by day to a reception disco by night.

If you would like to hold your reception in the church, it would be best to speak to the church Vicar to see if this is a possibility and for a cost enquiry.

Weekday Weddings

Whilst weddings are commonly held on Saturdays, many couples are now opting for weekday weddings. Weekday weddings can quite often be more budget-friendly for reception options than having your special day on the weekend. If you are considering having your wedding ceremony in your local church, do contact the Vicar and they will be able to discuss the availability with you.

Your Special Day

Your wedding day is the start of a new chapter, celebrating the next adventure for you both as a couple. However your special day looks, we hope that it uniquely reflects you and your partner. Choosing to get married in your local church is incredibly special, and the church will be cheering you on from the planning stages right up until your big day. They will want your special day to reflect you as a couple, so do speak to the vicar about your plans. They will also be able to share any ideas and inspiration from past weddings they have held there.
