About Us

Welcome to Devon Church Weddings. We are the Church of England in Devon and we are delighted that you are thinking of getting married in church. Churches are beautiful, spiritual, holy places, built for the glory of God, for worship and to mark the big events of life. Choosing to marry in church is to celebrate your love and commitment to each other with vows made and promises given, with hymns and music (if you wish) and with prayer and blessing.

A church wedding is conducted by a member of the clergy, who will meet with you, support you as you prepare for marriage, help you plan your service and take your wedding. In choosing a church wedding you have more than the day itself – you have made a connection with a church community, who will be there for you both now and in the future, offering their care and prayers.

This website gives information about why a church wedding is special, how to go about arranging a church wedding, and the criteria that apply to getting married in the Church of England. You will also find links to the words of the Church of England marriage service and resources for planning.

I hope this is helpful to you, and please do get in touch via our Contact Us page if you would like further information or help.
With every blessing,

Bishop Jackie
The Bishop of Crediton

How We Can Help

Your first point of contact is your parish church. You can find how to get in touch with the vicar of the church you are hoping to get married in on the AChurchNearYou website. If you are having trouble getting in touch with your local church or are not sure who to contact, Devon is divided into four areas called Archdeaconries which each have an overseeing Archdeacon. Each Archdeacon is very knowledgeable about the churches in their area and would be happy to help you through the process of getting married in an Anglican Church in Devon. The Archdeacon of Exeter, The Venerable Andrew Beane (left) has been integral to the Devon Church Weddings project.

Who is my Archdeacon?

"Talking it all over with Andrew meant there would be no surprises at all and that really put me at ease. I knew exactly what was happening and when.
That meant I could really relax and enjoy it."

The Team

The Devon Church Weddings team is headed by the Archdeacon of Exeter, the Venerable Andrew Beane, the Diocese of Exeter Communications and Engagements department and a small team of vicars and lay ministers. Everyone involved with the project is dedicated and excited to help you with your church wedding journey.
